This will be applicable only for those joining service from April 1, the date on which the National Pension Scheme is becoming operational.

The decision and the manner in which it was announced drew instant flak from Opposition parties and even some corners of the Congress party. Finance Minister KM Mani announced the decision -- the most important part of the State Budget he presented in the Assembly on Friday, at a Press conference after his Budget speech in which he made no reference to it.
“The Contributory Pension Scheme, which should be rightly called as the National Pension Scheme, is coming into force on April 1. In conformity with this, the pension age of government employees in the State is being raised from the present 56 years to 60,” Mani said, adding that the decision would not cause any harm to anyone.
