1.Building Materials

3.Building planning and estimating
Planning  –  Consideration  affecting  cost,  orientation  of  building,
principles of building design, design of residential building, office building,
school building, cinema theatre, auditoriums, hospital building etc. plumbing,
carpentry, wiring.
Estimating, types of estimate, detailed estimate – quantity survey,
analysis of rate, abstract of cost, building estimate.

4.Surveying and Levelling
Surveying  –  introduction,  classifications  of  surveying,  chaining,
instruments  used  for  chaining,  survey  station,  survey  lines,  check  line,
offsets, field works, plane table surveying, instruments used for plane tabling,
working operation, methods of plane tabling, compass surveying, bearings
and  angles,  principles  of  magnetic  compass,  temporary  adjustments  of
compass, local attraction, levelling, definitions, methods of levelling, levelling
instruments, temporary adjustments, steps in levelling, booking and reducing
levels, profile levelling, levelling problems, contouring.

5.Geometrical drawing
Geometrical figures, geometrical constructions, types of lines, scales –
representative fraction  (RF),  construction  of different scales,  orthographic

6.Hydraulics and Irrigation
Necessity  of  irrigation,  types  of  irrigation,  advantages  and
disadvantages of irrigation, rainfall and measurements, head works, types of
dams,  irrigation  canals,  cross  drainage  works,  storage  reservoir,  hydro
electric  power  projects,  classification,  component  parts  of  hydro  electric
projects.

7.Mensuration
Plane figure, rectilinear  figure, Area of different figures, solids

8.Water supply and Sanitary Engineering
Water supply schemes, water requirements, factors affecting demand,
sources of water, yield of well, pumps, conveyance of water, quality of water,
purification  of  water,  distribution  system,  appurtenances  in  distribution
system, Sanitary Engineering, systems of sewerage, sewer appurtenances,
traps – classifications, sanitary fittings, systems of plumbing, testing of drains
and pipes.

NOTE: - It may be noted that apart from the topics detailed
above,  questions  from  other  topics  prescribed  for  the
educational  qualification  of  the  post  may  appear  in  the
question paper. There is no undertaking that all the topics
above may be covered in the question paper.
